Boğazköy is one of the towns in the province of Corum. Located 242 kms from Ankara, Corum is a historic town situated on old trade routes from Central Anatolia to the Black Sea coast. It is famous with its archaeological sites and the delicious roasted chickpeas. Bogazkoy was the capital city of the Hittite Empire during the early age. The city, which was a Hatti province during the 19th-18th centuries BC, was captured around 1700 BC by the Hittite King Kushara. A hundred years later it was announced as the capital of the Hittite State by Hattushili I.

The city was the religious center of the Hittites and it was known as the city of temples. After the fall of the Hittite Empire in 1190 BC, Hattushash lost its importance.
